"Wow! As one who formerly identified as a straight ally for most of her life and queer for only the last several years, I think this blog is right on. Witnessing a loved one's experience of oppression and experiencing oppression for oneself are similar experiences - yes, both are painful, but they are NOT the same thing.
I once witnessed a trans-phobic doctor literally back as far away as possible from my partner until she was almost out the door of the exam room. Yes, watching it hurt deeply. BUT, the Doctor was not backing away from ME. It was a much different level of experience for him than it ever could be for me. Let's not kid ourselves, here."
